In an interview, Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Anthony Stolarz shared the story behind his 2025-26 season mask, created using an iPad. The goalie mask holds a unique place in sports as a highly personalized piece of equipment, serving not just as part of a uniform but as a customizable canvas for self-expression.
Stolarz’s new mask represents a blend of modern design and personal heritage, developed as part of Apple’s “Made on iPad” campaign, highlighting the intersection of elite artistry and advanced technology in the NHL. The design was realized by acclaimed artist Jordon Bourgeault from Calgary, who used the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil Pro to create the mask.
This mask is one of seven made for NHL goalies this season, standing as a technologically advanced symbol rich in Maple Leafs history and Stolarz’s family legacy. For Bourgeault, the digital shift from paper to screen revolutionizes his creative process, enabling faster and more precise work.
“Working digitally is a lot more convenient than physically drawing it,” Bourgeault explains.
The iPad Pro allows Bourgeault to iterate effortlessly, whereas traditional methods required complete redraws even for minor changes.
