Jose Urquidy is now a free agent after the Detroit Tigers declined his $4 million option for the 2026 season on Thursday. The 30-year-old right-handed pitcher missed most of the last two seasons due to Tommy John surgery but completed the 2025 season healthy.
Urquidy struggled in two relief appearances during the regular season for the Tigers. However, he showed promise during his rehab assignment, achieving a 2.91 ERA and an 18:5 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 21.2 innings.
This winter, Urquidy will aim to secure a rotation spot but may need to accept a minor-league contract to continue his career.
