On Sunday morning, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) confirmed that Uwan intensified into a super typhoon. The agency raised Signal No. 5 in Polillo Islands, parts of Camarines Norte, and Catanduanes, signaling extreme danger.
Pagasa reported that Super Typhoon Uwan is sustaining maximum winds of 185 kilometers per hour (kph) with gusts reaching up to 230 kph. The typhoon was last tracked 125 kilometers east-northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, moving west-northwest at a speed of 25 kph.
The agency issued Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 5 for areas expected to face life-threatening conditions from winds of 185 kph or stronger within the next twelve hours.
"Sunday to Monday morning is the most crucial time," Pagasa said regarding the watch period for Uwan.
Residents in these areas are advised to take all necessary precautions as the typhoon approaches.
