We spoke with Game Director Dave Guskin about the future of Riftbound, Riot Games' new League of Legends trading card game, which has just launched its first set, Origins.
The Riftbound team envisioned an extended arc for the game, spanning several years. Guskin shared,
"I think we got up to, like, 2030. So about 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 sets."
However, he emphasized that these ideas are still preliminary and subject to change:
"Those are like the very sketches of ideas of sets. The further out in the future it is, the less confident I am that it's actually going to be that."
Riot Games is still exploring what a Riftbound set should look like, as the game is newly launched and experimental in nature.
"We're a totally new game, and I don't know that I can say that what's worked for other TCGs will work for us,"
said Guskin, highlighting their innovative approach.
Riot Games has ambitious long-term plans for Riftbound with up to 20 sets envisioned, though the game remains in an early, flexible stage of development.
