Pete Davidson expressed deep admiration for his fellow “Saturday Night Live” alum and co-star of “The Pickup,” Eddie Murphy. Speaking to People, Davidson called Murphy “insanely talented” and said he truly understands what Davidson is going through.
“The thing that’s really cool about Eddie is we were both some of the youngest cast members ever,” Davidson said.
He noted that their lives share striking parallels, including the loss of their fathers at a young age — an experience that ultimately drew both toward comedy.
“I’ve been in this business a long time, and it’s nice to get advice from people, but no one gets it more than him,”
Davidson emphasized that while their careers are different, the connection they share is genuine.
“I’m not saying I did the same things as him, because he was infinitely more talented and did way more than I did, but it’s meaningful to get advice from someone who really gets what I’m going through.”
Reflecting on their collaboration in the 2025 comedy “The Pickup,” Davidson said working with Murphy was a joy.
“It’s one of those moments where if ten-year-old me knew this would happen, he’d be like, ‘Oh my God.’ I still can’t believe it.”
The comedy, directed by Tim Story, follows Murphy and Davidson in a heist-themed storyline and marks a major highlight in Davidson’s career.
Pete Davidson described Eddie Murphy as an inspiration and mentor, praising his unmatched talent and the personal understanding they share through comedy and life experience.
