Finland Joins New EU Border Entry/Exit System
The EU has introduced a new Entry/Exit System (EES) for non-EU nationals, which Finland has joined.
The system registers non-EU nationals traveling for a short stay when they cross EU external borders, but does not apply to EU citizens.
- The EES is an automated IT system that will replace traditional passport stamping at EU border checkpoints.
- It will be rolled out across the EU over the next six months.
The system will register the person's name, travel document data, biometric data (fingerprints and captured facial images) and the date and place of entry and exit, in full respect of fundamental rights and data protection.
