A woman and a young child lost their lives after falling into a waterway in southeast Melbourne on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred around 3:45 p.m. at Dandenong Creek, near Allan Street in Dandenong.

Authorities believe the mother entered the water in an attempt to save her child but soon found herself in distress. Emergency crews arrived quickly, discovering both victims unconscious in the water.

Rescue Efforts

Resuscitation efforts were carried out at the scene by paramedics, but despite those attempts, neither could be revived. Police confirmed both were pronounced dead shortly after.
