Yesterday, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen appeared on MSNBC’s Deadline: White House with Nicolle Wallace to strongly criticize President Donald Trump for refusing to negotiate with both parties to protect Americans' access to affordable health care and to end the Republican-led shutdown.
Senator Rosen emphasized the critical need to extend the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) enhanced premium tax credit to keep health care affordable for families. A recent analysis by the non-partisan Kaiser Family Foundation revealed that without extension, health care premiums for hardworking families would more than double this year.
In Nevada alone, nearly 95,000 residents rely directly on these tax credits for health coverage.
Senator Rosen said, “Donald Trump is in charge of the White House. He’s actually Speaker of the House these days, as he alleges himself, and he’s pretty much in control of the Senate. He could stop this shutdown right now by calling a group of Democrats and Republicans together to work on preserving the accessibility and affordability of health care for tens of millions of Americans who are about to fall off a cliff at the end of this year. Whether you get your health care on the exchanges or through your employer, everybody’s healthcare is going up.”
Author's summary: Senator Jacky Rosen criticizes President Trump for blocking bipartisan talks to extend ACA tax credits, risking a severe increase in health care costs for millions of Americans amid the ongoing government shutdown.
