Mark Tremonti, guitarist for Alter Bridge and Creed, shared an incredible story about jamming with AC/DC’s Brian Johnson during a wedding in 2004. The occasion was the wedding of former baseball player Johnny Damon in Florida.
Tremonti explained their connection:
“Johnny’s a famous baseball player in the States: he lives in my neighbourhood and he’s a friend of mine.”
At the wedding, Tremonti was encouraged to approach Brian Johnson and invite him to join in the performance:
“Somebody’s like, ‘You should go up to Brian and see if he wants to get onstage and jam with you. Go barge in on the wedding band’s gear!’”
He didn’t hesitate:
“He was getting a drink, and I walked up behind him like, ‘Hi, Brian; I’m Mark, I’m a guitar player. Do you want to go onstage and jam some songs?’ He grabbed his junk and went, ‘Fuck yeah, mate!’ Immediately. No second thought about it!”
Tremonti recalled they played three songs together, starting with Led Zeppelin’s “Rock And Roll” from their iconic 1971 album Led Zeppelin IV:
“We didn’t play a single AC/DC song. And then it just went on, with other people getting onstage, and I think I played two [more] songs.”
This spontaneous jam session at a baseball star’s wedding created a memorable moment where two rock legends united to honor Led Zeppelin rather than their own iconic bands.
