Parilla Alfalfa Sprouts Recalled Over Salmonella Risk

Consumers are being warned not to eat certain alfalfa sprout products made by Parilla Fresh after a nationwide recall was issued due to possible Salmonella contamination. The recall was initiated following a joint investigation by national and state food authorities into an unusual rise in Salmonella infections.

The NSW-based company has voluntarily withdrawn the affected batches while further testing continues. According to the Victorian Department of Health, the recalled sprouts were sold across several major supermarket chains and independent grocers, including Coles, Woolworths, IGA, and others in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, the Northern Territory, the Australian Capital Territory, and South Australia.

The impacted items were distributed in 125g packs with use-by dates up to and including 20 November 2025. Full product details are available on the Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) website.

“If you've eaten alfalfa sprouts, you should monitor for symptoms of salmonellosis, which may include diarrhea, fever, and headache,” said Victoria's Chief Health Officer, Dr. Caroline McElnay.
