As floodwaters recede across the country, AAA cautions used car buyers to be aware of vehicles potentially damaged by recent storms.
According to AAA Mid-Atlantic spokesperson Morgan Dean, flood-damaged cars often reappear on used car lots or online marketplaces after being cleaned up to hide signs of water exposure.
“Water inside of a vehicle, especially when we start to talk about mechanical components and wiring, can really cause some big problems down the road,”
Dean notes that floodwaters can destroy a car’s electrical and mechanical systems, leading to corrosion or hidden malfunctions that may not appear until months later.
AAA advises used car buyers to exercise caution when shopping for vehicles that may have been damaged by recent storms.
