Hugley's announcement comes nearly five months after he was terminated from his position by the city council. He was voted out 7-3, with council members citing ongoing issues and a lack of leadership as reasons for his dismissal.
“With great humility, and unwavering hope, I officially declare my candidacy to be the next mayor of Columbus Georgia,”
Hugley said during his campaign launch, focusing on unity and community needs if elected. At the time of his firing, Hugley told supporters,
“There is more to come, you haven’t seen the last of me.”
