Valelevu fire contained as two homes destroyed
Firefighters have managed to put out the fire that destroyed two homes at Kanace Road in Valelevu.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire started from the house on the bottom of a hill and spread to another house uphill due to strong wind.
Rajesh Chand Sharma, the owner of one of the destroyed houses, claims the NFA could have saved their house if they had responded promptly to their mid-day call, but were told no fire truck was available.
Sharma expressed gratitude to the youths of Kanace Road who attempted to put out the fire using water from the drain.
The family had lived in the house for over 18 years.
Questions have been sent to the NFA regarding the homeowner's concerns.
