Maine is experiencing a severe drought, with minimal rainfall and hundreds of wells running dry. This has raised concerns among residents.
According to the Maine Department of Environmental Protection, companies with significant groundwater wells must monitor water levels and reduce or halt pumping if levels drop too low.
The DEP says it’s currently not aware of any water bottling operations that have been required to reduce or stop withdrawals during this drought.
However, Poland Spring claims to have made cutbacks on its own initiative.
