Protests in Karnataka Over Lingayat Seer's Remarks

Basava-Lingayat groups in Karnataka are protesting against remarks made by Kadasiddheshwara Swamiji of Kaneri Matha, allegedly insulting Lingayat seers and followers of Basavanna.

The remarks were made on October 9 in Biluru village, Jath taluk, Sangli district, where the seer reportedly accused the Lingayat Mathadhishara Okkuta of being a "nataka thanda" (dubious group or drama company) supported by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

They were travelling across the state telling people not to go to temples and to throw away the idols of gods.

The protests are a response to the seer's comments, which were reported by Kannada daily Vijaya Karnataka.
