President Trump is posthumously awarding Charlie Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which will be accepted by his widow, Erika Kirk, at the White House.
The ceremony, scheduled to start at 4 p.m. in the White House East Room, coincides with what would have been Charlie Kirk's 32nd birthday.
Trump praised Kirk as "a champion of liberty" during a 9/11 remembrance event at the Pentagon, announcing plans to grant him the honor soon after his assassination on September 10.
The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest honor that can be awarded to a person, aside from the Congressional Medal of Honor, which is reserved for military personnel.
