Visiting research only students are great ambassadors for Western University, adding to the diversity of campus and helping advance research collaboration.
Osmany Hernandez Cruz, a visiting student from Holguín, Cuba, recalls his first night in London, Ont., where he experienced bitter cold, a stark contrast to the 33 C temperature he left behind.
“When we took off from Holguín, it was 33 C and by the time we landed in Toronto, it was -19 C. Then I took the shuttle to London, where it felt like -38 C,”
Cruz arrived at Western at the invitation of engineering professor Greg Kopp, as a Visiting Research Only (VRO) student, which changed the course of his research and future.
