Violent crime on the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) has risen to its second-highest level in the past decade, with 2,893 crimes reported in the 12 months ending in July.

The CTA is planning a fare hike of 25 cents per ride, while state lawmakers consider a bailout of the system and other Chicago-area mass transit.
