As ICE rocks Chicago, Catholics respond with prayer — and protest

Catholics Respond to ICE with Prayer and Protest

A group of Catholics has been praying the rosary outside a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility in Broadview, Illinois, every Friday for 19 years.

According to participants, the group had largely cordial interactions with ICE agents, with some even being allowed to pray with detainees on buses before deportation.

As a person of faith, as a leader of faith, to not speak of it is simply unethical — and sinful.

However, the Rev. Brendan Curran notes that ICE's demeanor changed earlier this year, with masked agents violently dispersing protesters, including religious leaders, roughly two months ago.

The Catholics continue to respond with prayer and protest, forming a small circle for mutual support and warmth.

Author's summary: Catholics pray and protest against ICE actions.
