House of Representatives committees have identified NYU Shanghai as a national security threat, citing its alleged advancement of the Chinese Communist Party's military and technological agenda.
A September report from the Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party and the Committee on Education and Workforce reviewed claims that joint U.S.-China academic institutes, including NYU Shanghai, are exploited by the Chinese government to strengthen its military.
The report also claimed that U.S. institutions, after accepting major funding from the Chinese government, have caved to CCP restrictions on academic freedom, speech, and governance.
The committees' report marks the second year in a row that NYU Shanghai has been named as a national security threat.
