American Public Television is set to receive a boost from the sale of Bob Ross paintings. Thirty originals will be auctioned off over the next three years to help offset station licensing fees for APT's Create multicast channel.
The idea for the sale was conceived by Joan Kowalski, president of Bob Ross Inc., after two privately held Ross paintings were sold by Bonhams for around $100,000 each in August. Kowalski found the amount to be "very shocking," prompting her to act.
"My head started ticking away, like, 'Well, this many paintings would equal this much, and this many paintings would equal this much,'" says Kowalski.
The paintings to be auctioned were created by Ross on his long-running series, The Joy of Painting. The sale will help alleviate licensing fees paid by stations for APT's Create channel.
Author's summary: Bob Ross paintings will be auctioned to support APT's Create channel.
