The provincial government is introducing a new look for licence plates, with a theme of "Strong and Free" starting in 2026.
According to the government, this theme echoes the province's Latin motto and reflects "Alberta's bold identity, economic strength and deep-rooted provincial pride."
The motto's inclusion on the licence plates will also serve as a nod to Canada's national anthem and Alberta's position as a strong and sovereign province within a united Canada.
Residents can choose among eight unique designs incorporating the province's landscape and history through online voting until November 15.
The current licence plate design has been in use since 1984.
