Bigots like Ron DeSantis should not be platformed by Stanford
Amanda Campos '26 argues why Stanford should not host politicians like Ron DeSantis.
The Hoover Institution will host Governor Ron DeSantis on Friday. As a Florida resident, immigrant, and woman, Campos views DeSantis as a racist, queerphobic, sexist, power-hungry politician.
Campos recalls moving from Brazil to South Florida in 2017, when Trump's anti-immigrant rhetoric was prevalent. DeSantis' rise to power in 2019 was seen as a continuation of this rhetoric.
DeSantis signed a state bill prohibiting sanctuary city bills, which would have prohibited local police from assisting ICE and have been found to lower crime rates.
He’s a racist with power.
