Norfolk is set to receive £1 billion as part of a devolution deal, which will also introduce an elected mayor to preside over the county and neighboring Suffolk.
The deal, proposed by the Labour government, will transfer powers from Whitehall to Norfolk and Suffolk, covering issues such as:
A 30-year multi-million pound investment fund will also be established. To proceed, an elected mayor will be created for the two counties, with elections scheduled for next May to decide the head of the new combined authority.
Suffolk County Council has already agreed to back the deal, following a previous failed attempt in 2016.
