John Wayne Gacy, a serial killer, spent his years on death row proclaiming his innocence and creating art.
Gacy was a friendly contractor and part-time clown to his friends and neighbors, but behind his smile, he was a prolific serial killer who murdered at least 33 young men and teen boys.
“It wasn’t like he had horns, or a sign,” police officer Michael Albrecht once said. “He was very popular, very well liked.
Gacy used his demeanor to lure victims into a false sense of security, before raping, killing, and burying many of their bodies under his home in Norwood Park Township, Illinois.
While in prison, Gacy painted clowns and found ways to make prison life easier, including using a 900 number to proclaim his innocence.
