Halloween Reflections from Teen Corner

Halloween Reflections from Teen Corner

This edition of Teen Corner features eight teens discussing their family Halloween traditions and the challenges of trick-or-treating with food allergies.

One approach to addressing food allergies is to have specific buckets for different types of treats, such as chocolate, candy without top allergens, and non-food items.

When I’m handing out the candy I specifically tell the kids which candy is which.

This consideration is especially important in large neighborhoods with many kids with allergies, making it rewarding to see kids with food allergies get excited about available treats.

Some teens take initiative to promote inclusion, such as delivering teal pumpkins filled with non-food treats to schools and dentists, receiving positive feedback about making students with food allergies feel seen and included.
