Coco Gauff defeated Jessica Pegula 6-4, 7-5 in the Wuhan Open final, marking her 22nd main-draw victory in China over the past three years.
Gauff dropped just 16 games en route to the final, defeating Moyuka Uchijima, Zhang Shuai, Laura Siegemund, and Jasmine Paolini.
In the final, Gauff initially led 3-0, but Pegula leveled at 4-4. Gauff then broke Pegula to clinch the opening set 6-4.
In the second set, Pegula led 3-0 with a double-break, but Gauff recovered to 3-3 and later overcame another break deficit to win 7-5.
The win marks Gauff’s 22nd main-draw victory in China over the past three years, more than any other WTA player in that span.
