Impaired Driver Charged After Attempt to Evade Traffic Stop

RCMP Northeast Traffic Services – Cape Breton has charged a man with impaired driving after he fled from an attempted traffic stop.

On October 16, at approximately 9:57 p.m., a police officer clocked an eastbound Honda Civic on Hwy. 4 in Irish Cove travelling at approximately 185 km/hr in the posted 80 km/hr zone.

The vehicle did not stop when the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, and the officer did not pursue the vehicle to avoid further endangering the public.

Approximately fifteen minutes later, the officer learned that a Honda Civic had flipped off the highway east of Big Pond, and the male driver had run to a nearby residence.

Officers located the man a short time later and conducted a roadside breath test, resulting in a Fail.

The 20-year-old man from Barra Head was arrested and transported to the North Sydney RCMP office, where he provided breath samples of one and a half times the legal limit.

No comment from the authorities was provided.
