Drug-Impaired Driving on the Rise in Michigan
Police in Michigan are reporting an increase in drivers under the influence of drugs, with Mount Pleasant being no exception.
Although city crash data does not currently separate drug-related cases, police records and regional incidents indicate a steady increase.
- In September 2025, a vehicle collided with a school bus in Mount Pleasant, resulting in one injury and an OWI arrest.
- In April 2025, two Mount Pleasant residents were charged after police found cocaine, fentanyl, and buprenorphine during a traffic stop in neighboring Midland County.
The Mount Pleasant Police Department notes that 41% of Michigan's fatal crashes involve alcohol or drugs.
"It is absolutely devastating for a family member to lose a loved one in a traumatic way,"
said Kevin Dush, a CMUPD Lieutenant, highlighting the devastating impact of fatal crashes on families.
