Police in Michigan are reporting an increase in drivers under the influence of drugs, with Mount Pleasant being no exception.
Although city crash data does not currently separate drug-related cases, police records and regional incidents indicate a steady increase.
The Mount Pleasant Police Department notes that 41% of Michigan's fatal crashes involve alcohol or drugs.
"It is absolutely devastating for a family member to lose a loved one in a traumatic way,"
said Kevin Dush, a CMUPD Lieutenant, highlighting the devastating impact of fatal crashes on families.
