200th Anniversary of Erie Canal

The crew of the replica ship Seneca Chief is pondering the future of the NY waterway as they travel through the 200-year-old Erie Canal.

The Seneca Chief moves at a 19th-century speed, taking about five hours to travel 18 miles between Amsterdam and Schenectady.

"The Erie Canal is not going anywhere,"

said Brian Trzeciak, executive director of the Buffalo Maritime Center, who is leading the 33-day expedition.
