Nabil Shaban: A Life of Advocacy and Acting
Nabil Shaban, a Jordanian-British actor, writer, and disability rights advocate, has passed away at the age of 72.
Shaban is best known for his role as Sil in the 1985 Doctor Who story Vengeance on Varos. He was born on February 12, 1953, in Amman, Jordan, and was diagnosed with osteogenesis imperfecta, a brittle-bone condition.
At the age of three, Shaban was sent to England for specialized medical treatment, where he spent his formative years in hospitals and residential homes. It was during this time that he discovered the power of storytelling, drawing from his Jordanian heritage.
In the late 1970s, Shaban studied at the University of Surrey, laying the foundation for his future career as a theatrical force of nature.
His life was a testament to the transformative power of storytelling and advocacy.
