Watchdog Sounds Alarm Over Cunningham Highway 'Blunders'
Wes Walker, a truckies' advocate, expressed his concern after visiting the area where safety concerns were raised by truck drivers due to the recent closures of the Fisher Park truck stops.
Walker visited the area after several truck drivers raised safety concerns over the closures of the Fisher Park truck stops on the east and west sides of the highway at Tregony and South Branch Road in Maryvale.
- The closed rest areas are now being used by contractors for the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) as a base for "safety" upgrades.
- Alternative rest areas for truck drivers are the Aratula Roadside Rest Area, approximately 24 kilometres east of the closure, and the Gladfield Rest Area, approximately 16 kilometres west of the closure.
