Airports are gearing up for the holiday season amidst the ongoing government shutdown. The uncertainty surrounding the shutdown's duration has airports on high alert.
Lauren Gonzales, Santa Barbara Airport Marketing Supervisor, notes that larger airports are more likely to feel the impacts of the shutdown. For example, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) experienced temporary groundings of flights from Oakland to LA due to staffing shortages on Sunday.
"We really haven't seen much impact on operations at SBA luckily but we are keeping in close contact with our Federal partners to be in touch on any changes that they see on their end,"
said Gonzales. However, a government worker, who wished to remain anonymous, reported being delayed due to issues at other airports while traveling out of town.
