Suspect in Charlie Kirk Killing Allowed to Wear Street Clothes in Court
A 22-year-old Utah man, Tyler Robinson, charged with killing Charlie Kirk, can appear in court wearing street clothes, but must be physically restrained due to security concerns, ruled Judge Tony Graf on Monday.
Robinson's attorneys argued that images of him in jail clothing and shackles could spread widely and prejudice future jurors, given the case's extensive press coverage and public interest.
Robinson shall be dressed as one who is presumed innocent," said Judge Graf during a virtual court hearing, acknowledging the case has drawn "extraordinary" public and media attention.
Utah prosecutors have charged Robinson with aggravated murder in the September 10 shooting of the conservative activist on a Utah college campus and plan to seek the death penalty.
