Virginia Lieutenant Governor Candidates on Key Issues
The race for lieutenant governor between Democrat Ghazala Hashmi and Republican John Reid is expected to be close. According to an October poll from the VCU Wilder School, Hashmi holds a narrow one-point lead over Reid, with a margin of error of plus-or-minus 3.95%, making the race essentially statistically tied.
Hashmi, a state senator, would become the first Muslim and the first South Asian American to win statewide office if elected. Reid, a conservative radio host, would become the first openly gay lieutenant governor in Virginia history.
Both candidates shared their stances on issues such as abortion, the economy, and education with WTOP, outlining their visions for the Commonwealth.
No matter who wins, the victory would mark a historic first for Richmond.
