Marcus Wiedower, first sworn into office in 2019, has announced his resignation from the Georgia General Assembly to focus on his role at Hillpointe, a real estate development firm.
His immediate resignation from House District 121 triggers a special election in December. Currently, Democrat Eric Gisler is running for the House seat in 2026, but may also choose to run in the special election.
This is not the first time a State Representative for Oconee has resigned, triggering a special election. In 2017, special elections were held to fill the seats of Rep. Chuck Williams and Regina Quick, resulting in Democrats Jonathan Wallace and Deborah Gonzalez flipping both House seats representing Oconee County.
Marcus Wiedower is stepping away from the Georgia General Assembly to focus on his role with Hillpointe.
