Upcoming Elections to Fill Vacant Legislative Seats
Voters in the Lawrenceville area will fill an empty seat in the Georgia House of Representatives, starting with an election on Tuesday.
The election aims to replace Shelly Hutchinson, the Democratic state representative from Snellville who resigned in September. Three candidates are running:
- Muhammad Akbar Ali, a graphic designer from Lawrenceville and a Democrat
- Marqus A. Cole, an attorney from Snellville and a Democrat
- Jamie Parker, a realtor in Gwinnett County and the only Republican in the contest
According to campaign reports, Ali raised over $40,000, surpassing Parker's $5,300 and Cole's $4,200, which was mostly self-funded.
