The Portsmouth branch of the Greyhound Trust (PGT) has announced its closure, effective November 30, due to rising costs and difficulties in rehoming dogs.
People are happy to donate to the dogs and we’re always really grateful but the cost of things like electricity, food and wages for staff has all gone up.
The branch, which has been operating for 50 years, has faced significant challenges, including increased administrative duties and difficulties in finding new homes for the dogs, making their work unsustainable.
The decision to close was made with a "heavy heart", according to the charity's bosses, who expressed gratitude for the support they have received over the years.
