Adam McInnis, a University of Toronto nursing graduate, has a unique perspective on addiction and recovery. Having struggled with addiction and substance use himself, McInnis now offers patients a message of hope.
After losing his father to cancer at the age of 16, McInnis turned to alcohol to cope with his grief, leading to severe consequences, including hospitalization and a brief period of homelessness.
“I’ve been in recovery for over eight years now and I feel lucky to have made that decision,”
he says, reflecting on his journey.
“My challenges and experiences have shaped who I am and where I am today.”
McInnis has graduated from the University of Toronto’s Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing with a master’s degree in nursing through the nurse practitioner program.
