Meridian Energy Begins Construction on Solar Plant
Meridian Energy, a New Zealand state-owned energy company, has started constructing its 120MW Ruakaka solar plant.
The project, spanning an area equivalent to 170 rugby fields, is located near Whangārei, the northernmost city in the country.

- Annual electricity production: up to 230GWh
- Solar modules: 250,000
- Expected life span: 35 years
The solar farm is expected to start generating electricity in late 2026, with full generation anticipated in early 2027.
The panels will be recycled or repurposed at the end of their life span.
