Italy's Contemporary Art Scene
In 1994, Artissima launched during a pivotal period for Italy's contemporary art scene, which was expanding beyond its historical heritage.
- The first museum entirely dedicated to contemporary art, Castello di Rivoli, opened a few years prior.
- Fondazione Sandretto was founded shortly after, becoming pillars of Turin's contemporary art scene and Italy's broader art ecosystem.
