I stepped out of the stuffy waiting room into the coolness of the hospital hallway for the third time, trying to escape the heat and calm my nerves.
My boyfriend Keith was undergoing open-heart bypass surgery, and I was anxiously waiting for word about his condition. We had been dating for only six months when he started noticing fatigue and shortness of breath during long walks.
In May, Keith visited his cardiologist and failed his treadmill heart stress test, revealing a serious heart condition that required immediate attention.
Jesus, I surrender to you!
