A compromise has been reached regarding the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge bike lane, which has been a subject of controversy for nearly six years.
The far-right westbound lane, previously blocked off by a movable barrier and reserved for bicyclists and hikers, will now be opened up on most weekdays for emergency access or refuge for cars that break down.
Rollie Katz, general manager of the Marin Association of Public Employees, says many of his members who live in the East Bay say their commute to local jobs is taking longer.
This change is in response to motorists' complaints and low use of the bike lane, and is expected to alleviate traffic congestion on busy workdays.
