A study published in the Irish Medical Journal has found that e-scooter accidents are contributing to a "growing burden on trauma and emergency care systems".
According to the study, 380 people arrived at the emergency department of Dublin's Mater Hospital seeking treatment for e-scooter injuries.
e-scooter users are at "much greater risk" because they typically travel at a much faster speed.
Dr Chris Luke, a retired consultant in emergency medicine, is calling for more e-scooters to be seized by Gardaí due to the increasing number of serious injuries.
Author's summary: E-scooter accidents burden trauma care systems.
