Sweden, NATO's 32nd member, will participate in the annual Steadfast Noon exercises, starting October 13, to ensure the reliability and effectiveness of the Alliance's nuclear deterrence.
The Swedish Ministry of Defense confirmed the involvement of JAS 39 Gripen jets, which will train alongside allies under the SNOWCAT concept to practice conventional support and contribute to nuclear deterrence.
Nuclear deterrence is primarily intended to ensure the security of allies, and in today's unstable conditions, NATO must maintain a reliable nuclear capability that serves as a safeguard against attacks on the Alliance.
The exercises will not involve live nuclear weapons, but will test the high-stakes deterrence skills of the participating forces.
