Rich Shumate: As Trump’s tariffs worsen farm crisis, Arkansas Republicans ignore the elephant in the room

Arkansas Farm Crisis Worsened by Trump's Tariffs

As the farm crisis in Arkansas worsens due to President Donald Trump's tariffs, state Republicans are accused of ignoring the issue.

Recently, China agreed to buy 12 million tons of U.S. soybeans as part of a trade deal, in which Trump pulled back on his threats of 100% tariffs on the country.

Whether that helps Arkansas farmers already hurt by China’s previous boycott of soybeans remains to be seen.

When questioned about the crisis, Finance and Administration Secretary Jim Hudson shifted the blame to China, stating that farmers are struggling due to predatory behavior by China, rather than ordinary business cycles.

Author's summary: Trump's tariffs worsen Arkansas farm crisis.
