PREVIEW: Marquette Theatre’s fall play “Fairview”

Marquette Theatre's Fall Play "Fairview"

Auditions for the show were held in August, with rehearsals starting in October.

Marquette Theatre returns to campus with "Fairview", their first on-campus show of the season, after partnering with Skylight Music Theatre for "Fiddler on the Roof" earlier this year.

About the Play

"Fairview" is a 2018 play written by Jackie Sibblies Drury, featuring a middle-class African American family preparing for their grandmother's birthday party.

However, family conflict arises, creating tension between characters, while four white observers provide racially driven commentary on the family's situation.

Production Process

Dimonte Henning, director and professor in the Diederich College of Communication, led the auditions in late August over two days.

Actors prepared a monologue for one of the characters on the first day, and after callbacks, Henning selected 20 people for chemistry reads, ultimately narrowing it down to an eight-person cast.

Author's summary: Marquette Theatre presents "Fairview", a play about family conflict and racial commentary.
