The Hypocrisy of Labour's International 'Greenwashing'
A recent UK government document on international climate finance results has been criticized for its overly optimistic tone, with claims that UK taxpayers have helped prevent 145 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions, improved climate change resistance for 33 million people, and saved 717,000 hectares of ecosystem since 2011.
However, a closer look at how the £11.6 billion budget for 2021/22 to 2025/26 is being spent reveals some questionable investments, including £52 million for a road through the Guyana rainforest and millions for a rewilding scheme in Uganda that involved removing subsistence farmers from their land.
