Lucky Loser Vitaliy Sachko and Matteo Berrettini Reach Metz Quarterfinals

Vitaliy Sachko's Historic Victory at Metz

Ukrainian lucky loser Vitaliy Sachko stunned world number 13 Alexander Bublik with a 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 win after a grueling two hours and nine minutes at the Moselle Open in Metz. This marked the biggest win of Sachko’s career and his first-ever quarterfinal appearance at a tour-level event.

Sachko showed resilience by saving three break points after four deuces in the 11th game, holding serve and then breaking Bublik’s serve in the same game to clinch the first set 7-5. In the second set, despite saving two break points in the fourth game, Sachko lost the set 6-3 after Bublik broke serve in the 11th game and held in the 12th.

No break points were faced by Sachko in the third set, where he secured the decisive break in the 12th game, ending Bublik’s chance to finish the year in the ATP top 10.

"Sachko improved his position in the ATP Ranking to world number 186 after becoming the first Ukrainian player to reach a tour-level quarterfinal since Sergiy Stakhovskiy in Marseille in 2019."

Matteo Berrettini Advances with Solid Performance

Italian Matteo Berrettini defeated Aleksandar Vukic 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 to reach his fifth quarterfinal of the season on hard courts. Berrettini started strong with an early break in the first game of the opening set.

Vukic responded by breaking back in the fourth game to level at 2-2. He also saved three break points to maintain his serve at 4-3 during a competitive first set.

"Berrettini earned an early break in the first game of the opening set."

Berrettini’s consistent play helped him close out the match in straight sets, moving forward confidently into the next round.

Summary: Vitaliy Sachko scored a career-best win to reach the Metz quarterfinals as a lucky loser, while Matteo Berrettini secured his fifth hard-court quarterfinal this season with a steady win.
