Justin Rose's management team has informed Today's Golfer that the English golfer plans to focus on playing in one more Ryder Cup before considering a captaincy position.
The choice for Europe’s next Ryder Cup captain appears to be narrowed down to two candidates. Earlier this year, at the Genesis Scottish Open, Rose expressed a strong desire to lead the team at Adare Manor in 2027, promising to give the role his full commitment.
“I would love to lead the side at Adare Manor in 2027 and, when my time comes, it would be a responsibility to which I would give everything.”
However, Rose’s recent victory at the FedEx St Jude Championship—part of the PGA Tour season-ending playoffs—secured him an automatic selection on Luke Donald’s team at Bethpage. His outstanding performance there, earning two points and reaching 17.5 career points to enter the all-time top 10, has fueled his motivation to compete further.
A recent report by The Telegraph’s James Corrigan cited sources close to Rose confirming his wish to play in an eighth Ryder Cup. Rose’s team also confirmed to Today's Golfer that he indeed wants to participate again but has not yet initiated talks with Ryder Cup Europe’s decision-makers, focusing instead on rest after a demanding schedule of 20 events over eight months.
In his interview at Renaissance, Rose dismissed the idea of combining player and captain roles.
“I’m not sure that’s a role we should be entertaining really.”
Justin Rose prioritizes one more Ryder Cup appearance before considering captaincy, clearly distancing himself from a player-captain role despite strong past performances and leadership potential.
